PNG to WebP converter
Shrink PNG images for your website while keeping transparent backgrounds. Several at once, with no uploads.
Lower means smaller files. 70–80% is hard to tell from the original.
Images are only ever made smaller, never enlarged. Aspect ratio is kept.
Why convert
When to turn PNG into WebP
PNG files are lossless and support transparency, which makes them large, especially for photos and detailed graphics. WebP supports transparency too, but compresses much better: Google reports that WebP images with transparency are typically about three times smaller than PNG when a slight loss of quality is acceptable.
That makes WebP a good choice for logos, product photos and illustrations with transparent backgrounds on websites.
Good to know
- Transparency is kept.
- TinyPixr creates lossy WebP files at the quality you set. For logos and text, use 90% or more to keep edges sharp.
- Outside the web, for print or email, PNG is still the more compatible choice.
Need a different format, or several at once? The image converter handles JPG, PNG and WebP in any direction, and the compressor makes files smaller without changing their format.
Frequently asked questions
Is transparency kept when converting PNG to WebP?
Yes. WebP supports transparent and semi-transparent pixels, so cut-outs and logos keep their transparent background.
How much smaller will my images be?
It depends on the image. Photos and detailed graphics often shrink dramatically, while simple logos with few colors shrink less and can even grow. TinyPixr shows the size before and after for every file.
Does this work in Safari?
Safari shows WebP images, but some versions can't create WebP files from a web page. If your browser can't, TinyPixr saves a PNG instead and tells you. Chrome, Edge and Firefox create WebP files without problems.
Are my images uploaded?
No. TinyPixr converts images in your browser, on your own device. They are never sent to a server, and nothing is kept after you close the page.
Can I convert many images at once?
Yes. Add as many images as you like, by dragging them in or choosing them, then download them one by one or all together as a ZIP file.
